ROMANS, CHAPTERS 6-8

We will do a deep dive into the book of Romans, chapters 6-8. What’s baptism got to do with it? Should Christians sin? Can Christians not sin? What about the things we don’t want to do, but do anyway, what’s that about? What does it mean to live according to the Holy Spirit? Do all things work together for the good? We’ll seek to answer these and other questions as we examine these three chapters in light of the whole book of Romans.

If anyone wants a commentary guide as extra reading for our study,

Pastor Rusty recommends either of these two books:

1) Paul for Everyone, Romans part 1: Chapters 1-8, by N.T. Wright

2) The Letter to the Romans, (One Book, Daily-Weekly) by Ben Witherington.

WHEN: Wednesdays at 6:30 p.m.

SERMON ON THE MOUNT

What does it mean to be a citizen of the kingdom of Heaven? Matthew’s gospel openswith three chapters containing Jesus’ longest recorded message. It was a message intended to turn upside down every expectation His closest followers might have. Both practical and profound, the sermon asks of us the same questions it posed to its original hearers: How should a disciple relate to sin? To others? To the Law? How does a disciple think, speak, and act? What is the nature of true righteousness? The book for this 9 week study is THE SERMON ON THE MOUNT – Bible Study Book Paperback – July 1, 2014 by Jen Wilkin

WHEN: Wednesdays at 6:30 p.m.

WHERE: Room # 127

FACILITATOR: Donna Long and Linda Wolfe

HOW MUCH MORE

Maybe your head knows that God is always good, but your heart’s not so sure. Or perhaps while reading Scripture, you’ve wondered if our Creator Redeemer went through a personality change—from strictly enforcing the rules in the Old Testament to loving the outcast in the New! In this 7-session Bible study, you’ll discover divine love in the often overlooked and misunderstood passages in Scripture. And you’ll be delighted to find that Jehovah of the Old Testament is the same redemptive and compassionate God we see through Jesus Christ in the New Testament. He has always been and will always be for us! Bible Study book by Lisa Harper is available on Amazon.

“A strong case can be made that the class meeting was the single most important factor to the growth of early Methodism and to the retention of converts within Methodism…. the early Methodist class meeting was focused on helping people come to know Jesus Christ and learn how to give every part of their lives to loving and serving Christ.” – Kevin M.
